Our mission is to create a high-quality question bank for IB Math and to encourage collaboration in a community that values kindness, cooperation, and mutual respect. Regardless of your level of expertise or identity, whether you're here to ask questions or share your knowledge, we invite you to join us in cultivating an inclusive community. We commit to enforcing and improving the Code of Conduct regularly.
Our expectations for members
We have outlined below some expectations to adhere to.
Engaging with users
No matter where you're catching up with your peers across the network, we really hope that everyone treats each other with kindness and respect. Remember, we're all in this learning journey together, and sometimes, mistakes happen - that's just part of growing! Even if comments or actions aren't meant to hurt, they can sometimes end up doing so. So, if you stumble upon something you feel might be harmful, don't hesitate to flag it for our amazing moderators. They're here to help and will take a look at the situation.
Asking
For the Community to be able to properly answer your question, there is a minimum quality standard that applies to all new questions:
Be specific
If you ask a vague question, you’ll get a vague answer. But if you give us details and context, we can provide a useful answer.
Keep an open mind
The answer to your question may not always be the one you wanted, but that doesn’t mean it is wrong. A conclusive answer isn’t always possible. When in doubt, ask people to cite their sources, or to explain how/where they learned something. Even if we don’t agree with you, or tell you exactly what you wanted to hear, remember: we’re just trying to help.
Make it relevant to others
We like to help as many people at a time as we can. Make it clear how your question is relevant to more people than just you, and more of us will be interested in your question and willing to look into it.
Answering
The knowledge sharing of the Community is the platform's foundation. To ensure the highest quality repository of information, we have adopted quality standards that apply to all answers on our network.
Providing the means and not just the final answer
When you see a student struggling, you will not simply provide the answer, but help him get there on his own, as this involves much more learning and growing.
Read the question carefully
What is the question asking for? Make sure your answer provides that – or at least a viable alternative. Your answer can say “don’t do that,” but it should also say “try this instead.” Any answer that fully addresses at least part of the question is helpful and can get the asker going in the right direction. State any limitations, assumptions or simplifications in your answer. Brevity is acceptable, but fuller explanations are better.
Provide context for links
Links to external resources are encouraged, but please add context around the link so your fellow users will have some idea of what it is and why it’s there. Always quote the most relevant part of an important link, in case the external resource is unreachable or goes permanently offline. Links to other websites should always be helpful, but avoid making it necessary to click on them as much as possible.
Write to the best of your ability
We don't expect every answer to be perfect, but answers with correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar are easier to read. They also tend to get upvoted more frequently. Remember, you can always go back at any time and edit your answer to improve it.
Avoid asking questions that are…
- unclear or lacking specific details that can uniquely identify the problem.
- soliciting opinions rather than facts.
- require too much guidance for you to answer in full, or request answers to multiple questions.
Unacceptable behavior
We have outlined key forms of unacceptable behavior across our Discord community:
Abusive behavior
We do not allow harassment nor any content that promotes, encourages, glorifies, or threatens acts of violence. We also do not allow causing or contributing to an atmosphere that excludes or marginalizes. Curation activities such as voting (upvotes, downvotes, voting to close, etc) are typically not abusive behaviors.
Conduct that falls under this category includes, but is not limited to, the below definitions:
- Bullying and Harassment - severe, repeated, or persistent unsolicited conduct, misuse of power or tools, or attacks that target specific users or groups of people in a manner that causes harm. Content that contributes to a hostile or threatening environment, denies a person's expressed gender identity or invalidates a person's individual experiences in a manner that causes harm.
- Hostile comments – malicious, unkind, cruel, or mocking comments that provoke or insult another person, including (but not limited to) the usage of gendered cursing terms in a derogatory way.
- Dangerous speech – any form of expression (e.g. text, images, or speech) that represents rhetoric that demonizes or denigrates a group of people in a way that depicts them as threats so serious that violence against them becomes acceptable or necessary; rhetoric that increases the risk of violence being condoned or committed against a particular group.
- Bigotry & Discrimination – the poor treatment, expressed irrational suspicion, hatred, targeting, and/or intolerance of another person or group of people due to their ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, or held religious beliefs.
- Dehumanization – depriving individuals or groups of people of their perceived humanity and dignity, for example, by comparing humans, groups, or their stated or perceived behaviors in a derogatory manner with non-human entities such as animals perceived as inferior, bacteria, viruses, microbes, diseases, infections, filth, and other qualifiers.
- Extremism – promoting or supporting violent actors, hateful organizations, or groups organized under a common name, sign, or symbol that promotes an ideology of bigotry and discrimination, heavily advocates for violence against others, or is tied to activities such as homicide, drug trafficking, kidnapping, acts of mass violence, and spree killing.
Harmful political content
We do not allow political content that encourages harm to others or that supports, celebrates, or furthers the cause of violent actors and hate organizations.
Sensitive content and imagery
We do not allow content that promotes, encourages, or shows sexual content. We also do not allow any content that promotes, encourages, provides instruction for, or glorifies suicidal or self-injurious behaviors.
Misleading information
We do not allow any content that promotes false, harmful, or misleading information that carries the risk of harm to a person or group of people.
Reporting
We hope we never need this, but here it is.
Every person contributes to building a collaborative, respectful community. If you find unacceptable behavior directed at yourself or others, you should contact moderators or get in touch with us through this link. We review each report individually and will respond as quickly as we can.
Students who don’t follow the Code of Conduct in good faith may face repercussions deemed appropriate by our moderation team, including, but not limited to, account suspensions.
